Try as the might the Buffs just couldn't get it done in the end to top the Bears. Colorado is coming off a tough 36-33 overtime loss to Cal where the Buff offense, and particularly the passing game, came alive with 582 and 474 yards respectively. A combination of 400 yards passing and 500 yards total offense has almost always added up to a winning combination for the Buffaloes (or any team for that matter) but that wasn't the case against Cal. Close, and better than last year, but not good enough.

The Buffs are following the trajectory that the experts have projected for this season by opening up 0-2. Strangely I have remained accepting of this fact; giving new coach Jon Embree a chance and the respective free pass to get his feet wet, get his team together, and earn his first win. But that ends this weekend. As you just DO NOT lose to CSU. It's on and it's game time baby. The Buffs are projected to earn their first win of the season this Saturday. In this case the experts better damn be right.

The Colorado Buffaloes renew their instate rivalry this Saturday against the Colorado State Rams (2-0, 1-0 MWC) in the 11th Annual Rocky Mountain Showdown at Mile High Stadium.

Kickoff scheduled for 10:30 AM. The game will be televised nationally by Fox Sports Net.

This is the 83rd meeting between the two schools and the 11th in Denver where CU leads the series 6-4. This will be Colorado State’s third straight game along the Rocky Mountain Front Range opening with a win at New Mexico followed by a victory at home over Northern Colorado. The Rams don’t leave the I-25 corridor until next week at Utah State. So they have it soft and have had it easy.

CU-CSU is one of 12 games Saturday matching intrastate rivals. Other top battles include Utah-BYU, Kentucky-Louisville and Oklahoma State-Tulsa.

State of the Week
0 - Number of sacks AND turnovers given up by Colorado in the California game. (This is a stark contrast to the 7 sacks CU gave against the Rainbow Warriors). On a record day last weekend the fact that CU had no sacks and no turnovers is rare feat and a dramatic change from the norm. It was CU’s first loss ever when not allowing a sack or committing a turnover (now 14-1).

2011 Planned Travel Games
9/24 - OSU
11/19 – UCLA
